What is Teamwork?

Teamwork is a project management software that we are going to use to replace Basecamp.

Why are we moving away from Basecamp?

Basecamp is now over 15 years old, and will not be updated any further. There have been newer versions of Basecamp, but these don't offer very much extra in functionality. Basecamp is primarily used as a message board for discussions.

Because the functionality in Basecamp is very limited, we are using a range of different applications within Pickerings to actually manage project work - for example - Microsoft Teams, Trello, Smartsheet, Monday.com, Oodo and possibly others !

So why did we choose Teamwork?

Teamwork offers the ability to have discussions in a very similar way to Basecamp, and not many project management applications do that. Trello, Smartsheet, and Monday.com while offering very useful functionality for project collaboration such as Task Lists, Kanban boards, Gannt charts etc, do not have any message board functionality.

Teamwork includes both a message board functionality, and project management capabilities.

This means that if there is a discussion around creating a new product for a customer (for example), and that discussion then goes on to become an actual project plan, both the discussions and the project plan will be together in one application.

It also means that the Senior Leadership team will have a visibility over project status, all in one place, which they don't have at the moment with projects being managed in so many different applications.

So what's the plan?

On 31st July we will switch off Basecamp, and on 1st August we will go live with Teamwork.

All of the history from Basecamp will be migrated into Teamwork, and there will be a similar structure to the way projects are organised.

Where a user has been previously deleted in Basecamp, their messages will be transferred over to Teamwork, but will display another user name - either the person that created that message thread, or if that person is no longer a Basecamp user, the administrator that imported the messages will be listed.

We will keep Basecamp running as a backup and historical archive for a period of time, but you will need to request access to it.
