VPN settings for Mac

Before you start, you will need to know your usual windows login username and password. You will also need a preshared secret from IT, please ask somebody in IT to send it to you. 

First step is to open System Preferences (click the apple logo in the top left hand corner) 

Double click Network to open the Network dialogue box

Click the + in the bottom left hand corner, to bring up the new service window

For Interface: Select VPN 

For VPN type: select L2TP over IPSec 

For Service Name: Type in a name of your choosing to identify the service. 

Click the Create button 

This takes you back to the Network dialogue box.

For server address type: 81.145.47.199 

For Account Name: type firstname.lastname as in the example 

Then select Authentication Settings 

Select password and here type in your usual network login password 

Then Select Shared Secret and type in the preshared secret that has been given to you by the IT Department 

Click OK to go back to the Network Dialogue box. 

Click Advanced...

And make sure the setting Send all traffic over VPN connection is selected. 

Click OK

The VPN connection is now setup! 

You can go into Network at any time and Select either Connect or Disconnect to access the Pickering Network over VPN.
