How to create a news article

Firstly, click on the 'News' tap heading along the top and then click on pencil icon to the left and edit

Then to the right hand side click on the pencil icon and choose either 'New Article' or 'Manager'

If you choose 'New Article' the screen will go straight to new post page

So here you can add a title which is usually the general main caption heading.  Then add a summary which is usually a brief description of what content is going to be displayed next.  In the content text box you can type directly into this area, copy and paste text, add an image/video or PDF.  You can also add links to any documents saved in the internal document exchange or other intranet pages, as well as external websites.

Using copy and paste

So you can type directly into the content box however you might wish to choose another option so lets being with copy and paste, this will work with either general text or image therefore it can be very useful.  Firstly, right click in the box where you would like the text to appear and click on the paste option and this box will appear : -

Then paste copied text/image inside the box as instructed and press save: -

It should then appear in the content text box as per below, please be aware sometimes the format of the text may not transfer across exactly the same therefore you might be better of typing it in directly if that's the case.  If you are not happy with how it looks you can delete it just by clicking on it, it will then turn blue and you can then press delete to start over again or remove it completely to choose a different method.

Adding Images

If you wish to add photos saved in the document exchange before or after text then click on this icon: -

The following should then appear: -

Click on the browse document exchange: -

Find the required image in the document exchange files and click on it.  At this point you can also choose whether you wish to display it as 'Gallery' (meaning when click on the image will enlarge) or 'Thumbnails' (meaning it will be displayed in a more smaller and compacted size) or if you had more images to display from the same file then you could click on 'all images' which would select all.

Once you are happy with what picture/s you are adding then click on 'Select Image/s'.  They should then appear in the content box, again if you do wish to delete them, just click on them which highlights them in blue and press delete.

Adding a video

If you are using a weblink to a video this should be straight forward by clicking on the video icon and entering the site URL address and pressing save.  The link should then appear in the content box.

If you are adding a video downloaded to the document exchange this is currently a little more tricky as it doesn't seem to like MP4 format therefore you have to use Panopto to convert to a weblink which is made visable to anyone who has access to this link.

If you do not have access to Panopto please speak to Kerry or Michelle who should be able to help.

You can just copy and paste a website link into the URL box and press save.

For adding a PDF, click on browse document exchange and it will display the files, just like when you add an image, tick the required document and click on select file and it should appear in the content box.

It won't actually be visible, it will show up blank in the content box but, it is there.  When you save your draft and preview it, it will be visible then.

To add a photo which will sit alongside the news article you need to save the picture on your device.  Click on 'Set featured image' and click on the 'Add pictures' tab.

Drop or click image to be uploaded and wait for a green tick to confirm it has completed.  Then click back onto the 'Picture list' tab and it should now appear at the top.  You can then press the 'Add Item' and you will see it appear on the right hand side on the article page.

Save draft and preview it

Once you are happy with your news article I find it is best to 'Save Draft' and then you will have the 'Preview' button to press to see how it will look before publishing.  If you do publish it straight away it can still be edited so no problem either way.

Publishing a news article from a draft

After saving it you will be taken back to the main news page where you will have to click on the edit button and pick 'Manager' to see all the news articles.  Then click on the 'Drafts' heading and click on the small pencil icon (Edit) under the Action heading of what you want to publish to review and change the option to 'Published' and click OK. Once you finally want to publish your article then click the blue 'Publish' button and then it will appear on the main news page and show up live on the news thread.

Publishing straight away

You may wish to publish straight after completing your news article therefore once you have clicked the 'Publish' button it will display immediately on the listing below and show up live on the news thread.  If you've realised you have missed something off or need to change it, then click on the pencil icon (edit) button under the Action heading of the article, make the necessary changes and re-click 'Publish' again and it will show back up on the news thread.

I hope you find these instructions helpful in guiding you when creating a news article.
