3.1.5 Creating a shortcut
A shortcut for Altium needs to be created on the desktop for operating Altium with the Libraries, a shortcut for the latest Altium is usually available in the AltiumScript directory for you to copy to your desktop.
If a shortcut is not available it can be created as follows:
- On the desktop click the mouse right button, go to ‘New’ and select ‘shortcut. Browse for the location of the latest version of Altium e.g.
- "C:\Program Files\Altium\ADxx\"
- Click on ‘next’ and name the shortcut e.g. ‘Altium xx Startup’
-
On the new shortcut, click the right mouse button and select ‘Properties’. Go to the end of the Target line and append it with the following line (ensure that the space at the beginning of the following line is included):
-RScriptingSystem:RunScript(ProjectName="C:\AltiumScript\UpdateLibraries.PrjScr"|ProcName="UpdateLibraries") - Click on ‘OK’ to save the shortcut,
For the following it is recommended that you are connected to the Pickering network with the Q drive available. Double click on the shortcut to start up Altium. When Altium starts up for the first time it will ask permission to create a set of directories on the PC to contain a copy of the libraries which will be created on the PC ‘C’ drive in the directory C:\ AltiumPickeringLib and will be updated every time that Altium is started up.
If the PC is not connected to the Pickering network, or the network is unavailable, a message box will appear warning the user that the libraries are not accessible. In this event, the library files that were copied from a previous Altium session (if available) will be used.
