Pickering aims to design products with a 20+ year lifetime and market this as a strategic advantage for choosing PI over the competition. To do this we need to identify vulnerabilities to obsolescence i.e. single source components at the product specification stage, the details should be broken down into the following categories:-

1. Relays (except PE reed relays).
2. Connectors.
3. Other components.

For single-source devices any alternatives / similar components that would require a design update to use should be specified. If alternatives / similar components don’t exist this will need to be highlighted in the stock control system so availability can be monitored.
